1. How does a student get to see a counselor?
A student should fill out a "request to see a counselor" form located in each classroom; and drop off the completed form in the guidance office before school, during lunch, or after school. The counselor then will send for the student at the most convenient time for both. In an emergency a student can ask their teacher for a "pass" to guidance

2. What kinds of duties are counselors involved in?
Orientation and registration of new and existing students, individual and group counseling, student recognition programs; Student of the Month/ Honor Roll, Award programs, in-school articulation, classroom observations, Consult/Confer with teachers and parents at conferences, Coordinate FCAT Testing programs, Assessment Tests and Career Inventories, Refer to Community Agencies based on need, Crisis Counseling; Child Abuse and Suicide Prevention Interventions, Coordinate the School Wide Student Services Team of Child Study, Coordinate Health Screenings; Vision, Hearing and Scoliosis. These are just a small sample of the specific duties.

3. What are the qualifications of a school counselor?
Graduate level study ( Masters Degree) in Guidance and Counseling in an approved program. Also, a State of Florida Certification in Guidance and Counseling.

4. When are the Standardized tests this year?
The FCAT writing ( grade 8 ) test will be administered February 10,  2009, with all make-up tests completed by February 13.
The FCAT reading and math SSS tests ( grades 6,7, 8) will be given within the window of : March 10, - March 23, 2009.
The FCAT reading and math NRT tests ( grades 6,7,8) will be given within the window of:  March 10  - March 23, 2009.
The FCAT science test ( grade 8 ) will be given. within the window of:  March 10  - March 23, 2009.
