Payments for School Lunch

In order to ensure that all checks received for payment of student meals have adequate time to be processed by the bank prior to the end of the 2013-2014 school year, checks will no longer be accepted as payment for meal services after April 30, 2014.

Effective May 1, 2014, Food and Nutrition Services cannot accept checks as payment for student meals for the remainder of this school year.

This does not affect on-line payment access at

8th Grade Farewell Breakfast

8TH Grade Parents: Please help support a "Farewell Breakfast" to celebrate your child’s last year at SSMS!!! This will be no cost to the kids because we are asking parents and businesses for donations. To contribute, please call or text Linda Gaynor at 954- 650-6045 for details. FCAT Testing

FCAT Tests will take place starting the week of April 21st and ends on May 7th. Testing will not be everyday for students. Letters will be sent home during the week of April 14th explaining the exact dates for each student.

Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day

Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day is an annual event. With parental approval, students can participate by visiting a particular workplace of a parent, guardian, adult relative or adult family friend. Nationally, the Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day is April 24, 2014, which falls during state mandated FCAT testing. The District will observe the National Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day on Thursday, April 17, 2014, making it possible for all eligible students to participate.

Students participating in Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day must complete the Student Log and Activity Form. The packet can be found by clicking on this link and finding the appropriate documents.

Silence Hurts

In light of some of the safety concerns that have happened, we would like to reemphasize some of the programs available to the community and students to prevent violence from happening. Broward County Public Schools has a program through the Special Investigations Unit called "Silence Hurts."

The focus of the Silence Hurts programs is that students, teachers, and parents can all make a difference by letting us know when or where a problem will occur.

The anonymous tip line is (754-321-0911), the Web site is (, E-mail address ( and by texting 'SBBC' plus the message to CRIMES (274637). Tips are received immediately by the District's Special Investigative Unit/Professional Standards Department, staffed seven days a week, 24 hours a day. Names and contact information remain confidential.
